Empowered Participation through Ideating Cultural Worlds and Environments: youth imagining, creating and exchanging cultural values and heritage through game-making

This ‘Games and culture shaping our society’ project develops a quadruple helix framework and design-kit for Empowered Participation through Ideating Cultural Worlds and Environments (EPIC-WE).

In the EPIC-WE project, 12 partners from Denmark, The Netherlands, Portugal, Italy, and Belgium have a goal to investigate, develop, and test a new cultural model of collaboration and development on how cultural institutions, creative industries and research institutions can meet and collaborate with young cultural citizens on game-making through and for culture across Europe.

The project positions game-making as an essential and central form of cultural participation and a way for youth to engage cultural heritage in new, meaningful, and engaging ways. Through processes of game-making in the form of ‘cultural heritage game jams,’ the project connects youth and culture, creates collaboration between cultural heritage and the creative industry, and invites youth to work together with cultural and creative partners in creating works expressing European value, identity and belonging across cultural heritage sites in Europe.

The danish partners beside CBN are Aarhus University (lead project partner), the city of Aarhus, and the Aarhus Art Museum – Aros.
